Oxford House is not for everyone. We are looking for a specific type of person to join our community. To be voted in the house, applicants must:

  • Have a strong desire to remain sober and fully immerse themselves in the recovery process.
  • Attend and actively participate in two or more 12-step type programs.
  • Be willing to be a part of the Oxford House community and participate in community activities with a positive attitude.
  • Be able to pay your share of expenses... starting at just $13 / day!
What to bring:
  • A good attitude
  • Clothes (essentials only, no Immelda Marcus's!)
  • Toiletries (minus mouthwash with Alcohol)
  • Money for Food / Food stamps
  • Cell phone (if applicable)
  • Car (if applicable)
  • Books & pictures
  • Computer (if applicable). There is a business computer and internet in each house.
What NOT to bring:
  • Weapons
  • Pets
  • Halogen lamps, candles, or incense
  • Pictures, posters and/or tapestries that have drug related images
  • Valuable jewelry, clothes or other expensive personal items
Requirements for Admission
  • At least 15 days of sobriety / Completion of an inpatient or intensive outpatient treatment program. (We will need signed consent to speak with primary therapist from treatment program.) at the time of admission to the house. Must test clean of drugs and alcohol.
  • A strong desire to remain sober.
  • Willingness to become part of our community and follow community guidelines.

 

Expectations of Residents

  • Remain alcohol and drug free.
  • Work full time or Part time if in school. Residents on fixed income (pensions / social security) are still expected to remain active and out of the house during the day working or doing volunteer work.
  • Attend a minimum of two 12-Step meetings per week and have a sponsor or temporary sponsor within two weeks of residency. If your housemates deem it necessary, more meetings may be necessary. 
  • Actively work the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous.
    Willingly submit to random drug screens. Urine screens are included in the monthly fee. Residents who challenge a positive test will be responsible for the cost of a blood or hair follicle test.
  • Follow ALL house rules.
  • Sign up for and complete all chores. Residents will be assigned weekly chores such as mowing the lawn, raking leaves, cleaning the kitchen, bathrooms, and other house areas.
    Attend weekly house meetings.
  • Perform community-service projects with other house members.
Reasons for Immediate Termination of Residency
  • If you use any alcohol or other drugs of any kind on or off premises (except for prescription and approved over-the-counter medications).
  • If you engage in criminal activity or bring weapons into the house.
  • If you physically or verbally threaten another resident or Oxford House staff.
  • Persistent disruptive behavior (refusal to comply with House rules)
